POLYESTER PAINTS 3K
- Polyester Paints 3K
The definition of “polyester paints” (unsaturated type) refers to a wide range of coating products formulated with special polymeric binders with “unsaturated” chemical bonds able to polymerize through a chemical oxidation-reduction addition reaction.
The main products of this family are:
- Polyester primers and base coats (commonly called “poliesterini”)
- Polyester topcoats (mat and glossy)
- Styrene-free polyester paints
- “Paraffined” polyester paints
These products have a wide diffusion as being characterized by high filling properties thanks to their high solid content and the wooden fiber filling properties and are, generally speaking, well familiarly used in modern furniture.
In the case of traditional polyesters (“poliesterini” or paraffined”) the curing process is started by the reaction between oxidizing organic peroxides triggered by special metal salt reducers (called accelerators, normally of blue color).
In the case of UV drying polyesters, the reaction is started by photosensitive photo-activators, whose action is triggered by special UV lamps of the painted line.
The “paraffin type” polyesters, with their high solid content, are particularly suitable to achieve closed pore finishes, transparent and/or pigmented. These coatings also, after proper sanding and buffing process, accomplish ultra-glossy finishes, lasting over time with no shrinking.
